A
traditional village Church that has been overtaken by
suburbia as Darwen has grown in recent years. Originally
serving the community of Sough (a name derived from the
spoil from a mine or, in this case, the digging of a railway
tunnel) the community has changed its name in recent years
to the more attractive Spring Vale.

After
suffering serious dry rot some fifteen years ago the congregation,
largely through their own efforts, rebuilt the Church,
retaining just the existing walls. The result is an attractive,
adaptable Church building with ample space. The community
makes good use of the building, using it for all kinds
of activities, such as NHS clinics, elections, line dancing,
and drama. The Church itself also makes good use of this
space for youth and children’s work.
The
congregation, though smallish, includes a wide age range
and a number of children.
