I
was brought up in South London before going to university
in Sheffield - where I met Gill. I became a Christian
through the Crusader Movement when a teenager. After training
I became a teacher, initially in the southern counties,
before being promoted to Deputy Head of a large church
secondary school in Carlisle. A position I held for 15years.
After leaving that post I worked for a year as a Youth
Counsellor for Xplore - a social inclusion project working
with excluded young people in Dundee.
I trained for the ministry whilst in Carlisle to become
a non-stipendiary priest. In this role I worked to relate
the gospel to the people of my 'parish' - the students,
teachers, staff and parents of the school. To enhance
my chaplaincy role within the school, I also trained as
a Christian counsellor.
Before moving to Darwen I served as priest in Scotland
(commuting some 12 miles from Gill's parish) and also
headed the Diocesan Board for Mission.
With my background I am inevitably keen on relating the
Gospel to young people, as well as bringing the Good News
of Jesus to the community which the church serves.
We have two grown up children (both boys - and both policemen),
a grand-daughter, two dogs and a cat!
