Our projects

Furniture Store

Founded by Churches Together in Darwen and now largely adopted by the Churches’ Partnership, this was a response to requests for help from families and individuals in crises. Now employing a co-ordinator and a large team of volunteers, second hand furniture is donated and collected from within the area and held in store. People in need are invited to view articles and items that are suitable, which are then delivered to their homes for a modest delivery charge. Many hundreds of people benefit from this service every year. Referrals are accepted from clergy, Social Services, etc.

Food Larder

This project was set up to collect small items of food for distribution to people less fortunate than ourselves. Examples of suitable items are: Small jars of coffee, small packets of tea, sugar, cereals, dried mashed potatoes and tins of evaporated milk.

Refugees and Asylum Seekers

A number of refugees and asylum seekers have been settled within the borough and a "drop in centre" has been set up for them, to offer help and support. This takes place at 1.00 pm on a Monday at Central URC. A large number of people have been through the drop in Centre and we are in contact with around 40 refugees and asylum seekers.

Sure Start

In conjunction with Churches Together a Sure Start worker has been employed to support the large number of Church based Mother and Toddler clubs, which has led to the founding of more groups and a much more professional approach amongst established groups
